Sulphur cap compliance and performance with ExxonMobil’s EMF.5™ fuels

Meeting IMO 2020 sulphur regulations is mandatory, but compromising performance is not an option either. That’s why ExxonMobil developed EMF.5™, a range of 0.50% sulphur fuels specifically formulated to help ensure vessel operators can safely and effectively comply with the IMO 2020 sulphur cap.

“Our branded EMF.5 fuels are highly stable under typical storage conditions, providing consistent vessel operations,” explained Gideon Simmelink, Account Manager Marine Fuels. “They’re formulated using proprietary technology that helps ensure good combustion and minimal waxing. In addition, EMF.5 fuels not only meet the ISO 8217-2017 fuel specification, they have also passed ExxonMobil's rigorous fit-for-use assessments.”

These features enable vessel operators to bunker the high-quality fuels they need, while complying with the IMO 2020 sulphur cap. With EMF.5 fuels customers can operate their main engines, auxiliary engines and boilers safely and efficiently when they switch to low-sulphur fuels.

EMF.5 fuels are currently available in the ports of:

  • Antwerp
  • Rotterdam
  • Genoa
  • Marseille
  • Singapore
  • Laem Chabang
  • Zeebrugge
